MAX’S THRILLING EXPERIENCE WHILE AIOTORING.

A thrilling account of an adventure with lions by a motoring party in the South African veldt has been received in Birmingham by the friends of Mr Hugh L. Williams, a former Alo.seley resident, who figured in the encounter Mr Williams, who now lives at Gwelo, South Africa, was motoring some Government officials up country to bring in a victim of sleeping sickness, when lie and his companions suddenly found their way barred by live full-grown lions. The car was pulled up within twen-ty-five yards oftlie beasts. The engine was kept running while a Government official blazed away with a rifle, the only weapon carried by the party. One lioness fell dead, two other went limping into the hush, and the two others fled in terror. The wounded lions were followed into the. bush, but one of them suddenly showed flight, amt the unarmed members of the pursuing party sought safety in the trees. The Government man’s rifle misfired, aim there was a moment of telision as the lion dashed forward. The boast hesitated, however, and'turning about clashed away out of sight.
