“FLYING SCOTCHMAN" DERAILED
REMARKABLE ESCAPE FROM DISASTER.

IiONDON, Sept. 14. Five coaches of the “Flying Scotchman” were derailed in the darkness at Cheyington, Northumberland. 'Tho train was travelling at the rate of 55 miles an hour. The passengers were severely shaken. There was a remarkable escape, from disaster. The wheels were buried in ballast, which prevented tho coaches overturning. The permanent way was torn up for 200 yards. The cause of the accident is a mystery.* It was probably duo to a subsidence, owing to mining operations.-
