BLAZE AT MANGAPAPA.

SIX-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED At a quarter to four o’clock yesterday morning a six-roomed house bellin'! the Mangapapa Schoolhouse. occupied bv Mr J. H. Dennis, and owned by Mr R. B. Dobson, was totally destroyed by fire. An alarm was sounded on the town bell by some of the members of the night staff of this journal, and the Fire Brigade turned out promptly, but only to find that the fire was beyond the reach of the water supply. A number of brigadesmen, however, went on to the scene of the outbreak. The building, which was a now one. was situated in Berry Street, and it was totally destroyed. Mr Dennis just returned on Monday from the country, and intended going back to the country yesterday. He spent the evening at a friend's residence, and on returning home retired to bed at 11.30. He was awakened by smoke about 3.30 .and got up to find the house m flames. He was unable to save anything bevond a pair of trousers and a wicker chair Mr Dennis a short time ago had shifted, his family to _ the country, and had ananged to dispose of the furniture ■y • Th ,° building was insured for £420 m the Victoria Office, and the Hirmture for £IOO in the Standaid Office. Mr Dennis values his furniture at about £2OO.- •
