There is about a million sterling involved. THE CHESTERTON LIBEL ACTION. TRIAL BEGUN YESTERDAY. (Received May 28, 11.50 p.m.) LONDON, May 28. The trial of Cecil Chesterton, editor of the “Eye Witness,” on a charge of libelling Godfrey Isaacs, whom he accused of corruptly conspiring with the Attorney-General (Sir Rufus Isaacs) and the Postmaster-General, has begun. Mr Herbert Sanmel (PostmasterGeneral) testified that the Imperial wireless negotiations did not originate with him. He had not held communication •with Godfrey Isaacs from first to last. Mr Samuel gave evidence that the statement in the newspaper . “The Eye-Witness” that he and Sir Rufus Isaacs’ secretary arranged that the public should pay a large sum to the Marconi Company was a wicked and childish falsehood. It was inconceivable, even if , a Minister were wrongheaded and dishonest enough to desire to enter with such a contract, inasmuoh as six Government departments had to examine and approve of the terms.
