CANADIAN NAVAL MEASURE
DOMINION'S POSITION IN WAR
TIME.
WOULD BE DRIVEN TO PAR-
TICIPATE
[UNITEB PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPT EIGHT.) OTTAWA, May 27.
Hon. J. A. Lougheed (Minister without portfolio), speaking in the Senate debate on the Navy Bill, said that Canada was just as much a part of the Empire as Britain. It was absurd to suggest, as the Liberals, did, that Canada ought to stop to consider, when •war came, if Canada would participate. Canada would be driven to participate, because our shores were likely to be invaded. He emphasised the point that Canadian battleships were recallable at any rime Canada so derided.
(Received May 28. 9.50 p.m.). The Senate has definitely decided to amend the Navy Bill, despite the Government’s contention that the Senate was unable to amend the Money Bill. (Received May 2S, 11.30 p.m ) Senator George’Ross, in the Senate, moved an amendment that Naval Fill should not pass until submitted to the country’s decision. The defeat of the measure is row certain.
