The final selection of a site for the Cawthron Observatory will not bo made until the arrival from England of a scientist whom Sir Robert Bell, director of'tlie Cambridge University, has been invited to nominate. When this gentleman has been appointed his first duty upon arrival here will be to determine the most suitable site for tho institution. Several sites have been offered. It is contemplated that the English scientist will supervise the erection and equipment of the Observatory' and afterwards act as director. , , Miss Proctor, who has been staying at Nelson after the conclusion of a lecturing tour, had several confergiicos with Mr C&wUiron surd inspected the available sites for the observatory. She is fully convinced that Nelson is an eminently suitable location for such an institution. ; TTT ... , Miss Proctor leaves Wellington on Friday for Sydney. It is her intention to deliver a series of lectures in Queen si and at tho request _ot tho Chancellor of the Brisbane University in order to advocate the establishment there of a Chair of Astronomy. She will later on pay a visit to Egvpt. Miss Proctor intends to return to New, Zealand to be present at the opening of the Cawthron Obseivatory.
