SUBMARINES V. TORPEDOERS.
NAVAL AUTHORITIES REASSURED. [INDEPENDENT PRESS CABLE] LONDON, Dec. 24
Despite the prevalence of storms the French submarine \ olta travelled SUL) miles without stopping. The whole of the journey took place under water.
The manoeuvres which recently took place in the North Sea- demonstrated that submarines would have much the better of an engagement wuh torpedo-boats, although the seas might be heavy. The naval authorities consider that' tlie guarding of the channel is assured, even if the rest of the squadron is absent.
