PERSONAL NOTES.

Dr: Davis, of Waipiro Bay, East Coast, returned by the Tahiti from San Francisco this week.

Mr and Mrs Charles Tray, and Missess E. and L. Tray, of Gisborne, were passengers from San Francisco by the boat this week.

Mr and Mrs Raymond White and family left Wairoa for Gisborne on Monday, to spend their Christmas holidays here.

Mr J . Thorpe, Engineer, engaged on the Gisborne end of the GisborneXapier railway, has returned from >V njigamu.

Mr 11. E. Hill, Registrar of Births, Deaths and Yd riages, returns by the Victoria this morning, having spent the holiday season at Taupo. Dr. Ross, who intends engaging in farming pursuits in the Wairoa district, has sold his practice at Waijawa to Dr. South, who has recently arrived from England.

Mr and Mrs T. Powdrell and family left Wairoa for Gisborne per motor car on Wednesday last, but had to put back owing to the terribly bad state of the road to the north of the Countv boundary.

Mr Austen H. Bisley, of Nelson, died on Monday. He was wellknown in the district as an energetic business man, and was a member of the City Council, a former president of the Chamber of Commerce, and member of many local bodies.

Mr Bruce Ism ay retires from the presidency of the International Mercantile Marine Co. on June 30th. Mr Harold Sanderson, formerly manager of the White tSar Line and chairman of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., succeeds him. A visitor to Gisborne during the coming week will be Rev. W. Hay, a prominent Baptist pastor from Dunedin. who has resigned his charge in order to make an extended trip abroad. Air Hay will spend some days here and will probably preach during his stay. On Thursday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Spence, who are leaving Alangapoike Valley for TeAroha, were fa re welled by a large gathering of friends. The guests were presented with a handsome silver chafing dish by Air. and. Mrs. Jex-Blake and Air. Smith, and by Air. Gordon Steele (on behalf of the Paparata station hands) with a silver salver.
