OVER 100 CASES IN TWO DAYS.

WANGANUI, Jan. 3. Over one hundred cases of ptomaine poisoning have occurred during the last- couple of days. The great majority .are traceable to ice .creams!, all obtained from the one source. The fact that one man also took ill' after partaking of tea at the same place leads to the supposition that impure milk was the cause. Several of the cases are rather severe, but none are really serious. .

SCORES OF CASES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. AGAIN TRACEABLE TO ICE CREAM. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 3. Doctors and chemists have been busy ail day yesterday and to-day treating some scores of people u ho are alleged to he suffering from ptomaine poisoning in a mild form through having partaken of ice cream at local seaside picnic. The poisoning is supposed to have been due to defective milk, and while many of the cases are pain> fill none are supposed to be serious. TRACEABLE TO ICE CREAM. WANGANUI, Jan. 3. Local doctors have had a busy time during the past day or two attending to people who how symptoms of ptomaine poisoning. The cases, it is reported, are practically traceable to ice cream eating. With a few exceptions the sufferers patronised a well-known ice cream shop on New Year's Eve and shortly afterwards became in ill-health.

The authorities have been making investigations and it is thought that some of the ci jam supplied to the ice cream vendor must have been tainted. The shop in r uestion is very popular, the propriety being extremely careful and scrupulously clean. Some of the sufferers, who include whole families, have been very ill, but the majority are now on the road to recovery.
