Mr. F. W. Hall, of Wairoa. has keen appointed manager of the “Wairoa Guardian.”

Cr. Britnell has resigned his seat on the Wairoa Borough Council, owing to ill-health.

Captain Taylor, of the London Salvage Association, returned to Gisborne yesterday.

Among recent c-aller.s at the High Commissioner’s Office ;n London were Mr. H. Wick, of Gisborne, Captain and Mrs. Bax, and Mr, and Mrs. Clras. Thompson, of Napier.

Advice was received by the Mayor yesterday that Mr. V . D. Lysr.ar would return to Gisborne about Christmas. He had just returned from Bristol to London, where he had been making inquiries regarding th« handling of produce at that port. His eye had stood the strain very well.

Dr. Schumacher, Administrator for the New Zealand Government at the island of Niue, arrived in Auckland by the steamer Atua from Haapai. He left by the Malieno on Monday for Sydney, and will subsequently return to Auckland for a visit ’wior to going back to Niue. He is accompanied by his sister, Miss Schumacher.

Mr. Robert Wallace, superintending engineer at Sydney for the Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, who died a few days ago. had (writes cur Svdnev correspondent) been connected with the company for over 20 years, and served as chief engineer in the Talune and other steamers. He superintended the building or close on a dozen vessels, and came cut in the Makura and Maheno, two of the smartest of the fleet. About three years ago he left the Maheno. succeeding Mr. D. MeCaicr a>-superintending engineer in Sydney. He was regarded as a first-class engineer, and was well known and highly respected throughout the service.
