WOMAN’S NASTY MISHAP. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Aug, 4. A very serious accident befel Mrs John C-ousins, of Blue Spur, on Friday. "When taking a kettle of boiling water off the fire she was either seized with a fit or fainted, with the result that the contents of the kettle spilled over the lower portion of her body and her limbs. There was no-one in the house when the accident occurred, and some time elapsed before one of the members of the family came home and found his mother, who was then in a comatose state. The unfortunate woman’ was removed to the hospital, hut it is doubtful if she will survive, PAINFULLY SUDDEN DEATH. DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 4. The sudden death occurred on Saturday night of Robert Bertram Vernon Smith, land agent here. Deceased was in High Street with some lady friends when he suddenly fell on the footpath. He was taken immediately to a doctor’s, expiring shortly after his arrival there. Medical evidence at the inquest to-day showed that death was due to a blood-vessel breaking in the brain. A verdict was returned accordingly, and a rider was added expressing sympathy with the relatives.

AN UNENVIABLE EXPERIENCE. DANNEVIRKE, Aug. 4. _ A youth named Claud Wysocki, while working a folding machine at tho “News” offico on Saturday, had an unenviable experience. While putting a belt into action his apron became entangled with the coupling, of the shaft and Wysocki was caught up and whirled round several times, missing the roof and the partition wall by the fraction of an inch. His agonised cries attracting attention, the engine was stopped, and the lad taken down exhausted and bruised, but not seriously injured. He had a very narrow escape.
