REGISTRATION OF BARMAIDS.
■ MULL CLOSE NEXT WEEK. ePER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, May 22. About one hundred applications have been received from barmaids in Wellington for registration under the new provisions of the Licensing Act,’ and as tlie register "will close on Wednesday of next week it is l thought probable that that number will just about represent the women belonging to this district who will he able to continue work at this calling. Of the hundred about fifteen have already received their certificates, and the others will also get their papers as the Labor Department completes its inquiries into the correctness of the data- supplied on the application forms. It is fully expected that the whole of the registration as far as Wellington is concerned 1 will be completed by the end of the month. The Department hopes to have the whole of the register for the Dominion finished about the middle of June. The certificates for which successful applicants have to sign in person at the Departmental offices are very simple in form. They merely set out. that so and so lias been registered as a barmaid under the provisions of, the Licensing Amendment Act, 1910. Iney ai-e signed by the Secretary for Labor, who is also the registrar for this particular purpose.
