POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf club will be commenced (at Makaraka racecourse to-day, when a programme of eight races will be got off, tlie first event being timed to start at 12.45 p.m. The course is in excellent order and some good racing should be witnessed as the fields are exceptionally large. Messrs. Vita Bros.’ String Band will play a programme of music on the lawn. Mrs. Erskine will provide luncheon in both the grandstand and outside enclosures and everything will be done to ensure the comfort of patrons. A now stand has been erected for the use of the outside public and will be available without extra charge. Special trains will leave Gisborne for the course at 12 noon and 1 p.m., and leave _tho Makaraka. platform for town .at 5.45 p.m. immediately after the last race. The special train from Waikohu will leave at 9.45 a.m., Te Karaka 10.11 a.m. and will leave Makaraka for Waik<sliu at 5.45 p.m. EGMONT RACES. (Press Association.) HAWERA, Feb. 10. Splendid weather, fast tracks, and a good attendance were found at the first day of the Egmont summer meeting. Opawa Hack Hurdles. —Maidi 1, Chase Mab 2, Somali 3. All started. Egmont Cup.—Ngapuka 1, Kilmarnock 2, Paritutu 3. All started. Time, 2min 37sec. Scratched: Shannon Lass, Bismarck, Jtoliepotae, and Silva. Time, lmin 29 l-ssec. Bagatelle,-who fell in the Whareroa Hurdles, with a broken fetlock, had to be destroyed.
