“THE BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE.”
The brilliant spectacular display “The Birth of the Empire," was produced for the-second time in the Garrison Hall last evening, before an audience of about 2000 people. The kaleidoscope blaze of color in the marches, waltzs, and grand tableaux was loudly applauded, the audience showing their delight by frequent encores. A special feature of the programme last- evening was adisplay of physical drill by a picked squad' of twelve men from the Gisborne Rifles. To-night there will be introduced an illustrationjri a eyc.c patrol on active service. The cyclists are sent out ahead of the main body, and at dusk receive orders to remain where they are for the night. A fight, takes' place, and the ambulance corps arrives to relieve the , wounded. _ The display will be very realistic, and will be worth seeing. Special features will be introduced at each^ performance. and for the benefit of country residents a late train will leave for Kanaka on Saturday night.
