MacMAITON’S PICTURE DRAMA

Of this unique living picture event which will bo witnessed for the first time in Gisborne on Saturday 29th inst. (says an Auckland contemporary) “Rolfe Boldrewood’s story, 'Robbery Under Arms’ is, beyond question, the best bushrangmg story ever written. It has beeu widely read in both the old AVorld and the New, and among playgoers, its presentation as a melodrama has always attracted a crowded house. Both tho book and the play contain the true atmosphere of Australian bush mo, before modern inventions, such as the train, the telegraph and the telephone, made bushranging impossible. The boldness, warmth and typical colonial life that are so well told in the book and have been so well portraved upon the stage, were produced in‘a stronger, and more realistic form by Messrs AlacMahon’s picture-drama 1:1 is Majesty’s last evening. The building was crowded to excess and the audience fully appreciated the most excellent bill of fare provided. "While the picture-drama was tlie leading feature of last night’s entertainment, a series ol incidental pictures, without doubt the finest ever shown hero, if not in New Zealand, was also shown. These included a very line series of colored magic films entitled “Easter Eggs,” and two humorous films. “The Inexperienced Chalfeur” and "'l lie Chaser Chased,” which kept the audience m roars of laughter. A very fine series of vivid pictures, most artistically colored, were also shown to illustrate Aliss Tanslov’s contribution of “Like the Rose” and “The Fireman,” those of the latter being particularly fine.
