The Prime Minister was most cordially received on his journey from W’hiiiigarei to Kawakawa to-day, the district turning out from far and near to bid him welcome, on his first visit. Before leaving for Russell this evening, lie delivered a public address to Kawakawa residents, during which ho indicated thut railway communication with Wlmngarei would bo'established before very long. Tho present distance between tho railheads is some 80 miles. Sir Joseph was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence in conclusion. REMARKS ON THE FREEHOLD. Press Association. WHANG ARE/, Feb. 21. The Premier addressed an .immense audience last night. He said the Government never proposed in any single law to take away the freehold from the farmers, and they never intended to propose it. The Government would pay this year to the public works fund £BBO,OOO, and still have £770,000 to commence tho next financial year with.
