AN ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION. Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 17. Cardinal Moran arrived from Sydney by the Manuka early on Sunday evening. He was welcomed by the local clerics of the Roman Catholic Church and immense crowds. He was escorted by a procession of carriages to the residence of Bishop Lenihan. The scene.in town was one of intense enthusiasm. The Cardinal’s carriage was rather pushed along than pulled by the horses. On arrival at the Bishop’s Palace, Bishop Lenihau mlide a speech of welcome. Cardinal .Moran thanked the people of Auckland for the very enthusiastic welcome extended to him. iSucli a reception could not do other than cement the union which from 'the earliest days had welded together the great diocese of Sydney .and the diocese of Auckland.
Liter. AUCKLAND, Feb. 17. Cardinal Moran visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral and several other Roman Catholic institutions to-day. This evening lie opened the St. Patrick’s Grand Dominion Festival, which is being held in the Royal Albert Hall, in aid of the building fund of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. In file course of his remarks lie expressed his pleasure at the great changes that had taken place in religious and social matters in New Zealand since his last visit, 22 years ago, and ho specially referred to the high distinction of 'the title of “Dominion” which had recently been conferred upon this country. The Cardinal leaves for Rotorua to-morrow morning.
