AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT.

.MILLINERY SHOP FLOODED. .MISS M. NEILL’S STOCK DAMAGED. About 0.30 o’clock last evening a boy proceeding down Gladstone-road saw water issuing from under the door of Miss M. Neill’s millinery establishment. He at once obtained assistance, and an endeavor was made to find the cause of the trouble. It was found when Miss Neill’s shop was opened that water was pouring in through the rod. Further search showed that the water was coming from a tap in a room upstairs, occupied by Mr. AY. J. Svkes, dentist, which was turned lull on. Recently the water was cut off in the main, and the tap had evidently been left turned on. Tho tan was instantly turned oil, ami n start was made to remove as much stock as possible to a place of safety. A couidc of tables in the shop, dressed with a large variety of delie ite fabrics, received a heavy shower from the roof, and the goods on them suffered severe damage. Water dripped from nearly all ovqr the roof, but the left side ot the sffiop received the worst treatment, the majority of the goods on the shelves on this side being saturated. Miss Neill was on the scene early, and with tho help of a number of ladies and gentlemen did a lot of work in shifting goods. At 7 o’clock water was still coming through tho roof, though it was confined to a slight dripping. Miss Neill lias not yet had an opportunity of ascertaining the exact extent of the damage, but she expects that her loss will he in the vicinity of £2OO.
