GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The Gisborne School Committc met last night at tile school. _ Prc sent:—Mr. J. Somervell (chairman) Rev. AA’ni. Grant, Messrs. Darton 'Bright, Morgan, A. Spence, and F J. Rowley (headmaster). —Air. F. J Rowley presented his report, am stated that the average attendants had been good, at one period reachim 97 per cent, of the roll. The pre sent roll number was 856. Reference was also made in the report to tin resignations of Misses Ambridge ant Sheen from tlie positions of pupil tea chers, and a recommendation wa. made that a mistress he appointed n their place. On the motion of Air Darton it was decided that the res’" nations of the pupil teachers which were handed in be accepted, and tha ■the excellent' services of tho two la dies in question be jdaced on record —The Chairman commented on the excellence of the examination repor which had been received from Napier and said that it reflected great credi: on the school and on tlie staff. Or the motion of Air. Darton a vote o: thanks was passed to the teachers fo tlie work done during the year, tin quality of .which was borne out in tin examination report.—lt was decided that application be made to tin Board for a teacher, as .recommended in the headmaster’s report.—Rev AA’jn. Grant proposed, and Air. A Spence seconded, that Air. Dartor and the secretary bo appointed a sub committee to confer with the head master re the school water supply.— The Revs. Grant and Griffin and Air G. AA’ildisli were appointed tho visiting committee for the ensuing month —lt was resolved on tlio motion o! the Chairman that a letter of sympathy and condolence be forwarded i< the widow of tlie late C. A. Nield Mr. Darton, in seconding the motion spoke feelingly of the wortli of tin late Air. Nield, and deplored his lo r deeply.
