Russia has paid £16,962 compensation for wrongful seizure of the Canadian sealers Carnelite, Vanediver, and Belle of Behring. LONDON. Dec. 18. The destroyer Tartar, in her official trial, averaged for 6 hours’ continuous steaming 35.363 knots. (Received Dec. 18, 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 18. At the inquest on the boy Barlow an open verdict was returned. Tho medical evidence showed that death was due to drowning, and that the hat-pin, though it did not pierce the heart, was inserted during life, and could have been done by tho lad himself.
