THE GISBORNE LADIES’ TEAM
The N.Z. Herald gives the following reports of the matches GISBORNE V. NORTH SHORE
The match between the Gisborne ladies’ team and the North Shoro ladies war played at North Shore on Saturday, aw* proved to be one of the best games u hookey seen this soason. From the bpd'vjl Gisborne eeoured, and immediately rus£ tho Shore goal, but a hard shot Bkerratt just missed the post. From .Xgl bully Gisborne again seoared, and L* about ten minutes kept up a most deterv mined attack, but North Shore's was too Btnbborn, and a good shot by Miss Alison'to Miss Cbrry enabled thß left wing to set np an attaok on the Gisborne goal. All efforts to soore were stopped by the Gisborno right full book. Mies Jotmeton, with a long shot, removed the danger. Some very even play took plaoe in midfield ; pessiog between Miss Reynolds and MiBB Goffe saw the Gisborne wing forward attaoking strongly, but Miss Cook saved, From -the corner hit North Shore intercepted, and after a fine passing rush plaoed Gisborne on the defensive. Halftime was called without a soore being registered. The Becond half proved more exoiting, the play being fast and open, The wing forwards of both teams led some fioo attaoks, centreing with great judgment, but only to be checked by the full baok at the oritioal moment. Towards the close of the game Gisborne, led by Miss Goffe, attaokod strougly, and some exciting play in North Shore’s circle took plaoe, but Miss Wynward removed the \ danger. With play io midfield time oalled. The game resulted in a draw, neither side scoring.
KOPANA Y. GISBORNE.
For the greater part of the first spell Gisborne kept Kopana on the defensive, but want of combination spoiled chances of scoring. Give and-takc play ensued for the rest of the spell, each end being visited in turn. The whistle sounded without either side scoring. In the second spell Kopana at once put Gisborne on the I defence, but the good play by the Gisborne I backs prevented any score. Gisborne now broke away from a loose pass and scored an easy goal. • Ivopaua began to play with greater energy, and were unfortunate in not scoring. From a good pass from Miss Scott, Miss Taylor got away on the wing and scored the first goal for Kopana. The game was becoming very fast, and some good play was witnessed. The gauvjrf ended without any further scoring®*; Gisborne, one goal; Kopana, one go)!# 5 ' for the visitors all played fairly gpoci hockey, their clever stick work and strong driving being the most noticeable features of the game. For Kopana Bliss Taylor got through a lot of work, but the team were far below their usual form and lacked combination, their driving being exceptionally poor.
