WANGANUI V. MANAWATU. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. A cricket match was played to-day between teams representing Wanganui and Manawatu Associations. It was decided on the first innings, Wanganui winning by 189 runs.

WHATAUPOKO v. KAITI-CITY.

The Thursday competition was resumed on Victoria Domain yesterday afternoon under the most favorable weather conditions. The above clubs fought out an interesting match, Whataupoko eventually recording their first win of tho season by 23 runs. Of Whataupoko’s total of 92, the partnership of W. Gibson and F. Sharp saw tho bulk of the runs put on. Sharp gave the best battiDg display he hasyet shown, and showed sound defence allied with good sooring strokes. Tattersall hit up 10 quickly, and Barlow, Delaney, Rowland, and Goldsworthy all helped to swell the total. Laing appeared at tho bowling crease for the first time here, and his slow off-breaks appeared to trouble the batsmen. Porter come out, as usual, with good figures, but he did not appear to be at his best, and his deliveries lacked the

“ devil ” he generally put into them. Lewis, the veteran, bowled finely, and sent along some roally good ones. KaitiCity, on going to tho wickets, started unpromisingly, but some of tho later batsmen did better, and tho total roachod 69. Porter, the captain, was batting well whon ho had the illluck to be thrown out smartly by Garrett. C. Priestly maintained the consistent form ho has shown this season, and made some fine on drives in his 14, not out. Swain, a colt, also batted confidently and well. Garrett bowled splendidly for Whataupoko, and captured four wickets for 13. Gibson was expensive, but Young, Tattersall, and Barlow all came out with good figures. A pleasing feature about the afternoon’s play was the promising form shown by the colts. Delaney and Swain batted well, while young Riee showed surprisingly good form for his years behind the sticks. The following are the scores:—
