CARRIED BY OVERWHELAIING MAJORITY.

Christchurch, last night,

Considerable interest was taken in the polling to-day on the subject of Greater Christchurch, and the proposal for the amalgamation of the city and the adjoining boroughs was carried by overwhelming majorities. The figures were :—Christchurch, for amalgamation 1208, against 79 ; St Albans, for 426, against 238; Linwood, for 599, against 145. The Sydenham poll will be taken on Feb. 4th.
