EDUCATIONAL GRANT FROM FRANCE. [by TELnaiurn.—fuebs association.] Auckland, last night. A tender for tho erection of Marist Brothors’ College at Ponßonby has been accepted, and tho work of tho building will bo commenced immediately. Threo years ago Bishop Lenihan made a grant towards tho schome of sixteen aeros of land, the only condition being that the Marist Order would erect a suitable Collego, and provide a competent teaching staff. The local principal of tho Order, therefore, communicated with the Head House of the Order in Franco. The French authorities approved of the Bcbemo, and voted a sura sufficient for carrying out tho work. Mr Moody has secured tho contract for tho building at £47 80. It is estimated when tho building and all tho intornal fittings are completed that tho cost will run into something like £SOOO. A MATTER OF SENTIMENT. Tho Waitemata County Council havo boon asked to objoct to any repetition of tho disinterment proceedings, which have been going on at Waikuraete. Mr Bruoo said that tho disintermonts were sanctioned by law. i Mr Cochrane said that Southorn Councils had protested. Ho was told the scone was disgusting in the extreme. Tho Chairman said it was a matter of Bontiment with tho Chinese peoplo to take the bodies homo.
Mr Gochrano thought that tho Chinamen should in future bo compelled to bury on a small island if thoy were determined to disinter. The Council took no action.
