In the Cape Assembly, Mr Smartt’s motion in favor of making the treason laws more stringent was negatived by 34 to 13. General Ilruitzinger has sailed for England on a few months’ pleasuro tour. Interviewed, ..he said he was thoroughly reconciled to the new conditions, and predicted the speedy and quiet settlement of South African affairs.
