In the Land Board appeal case, after hearing evidence, His Honor explained to tho jury that there were two iinportaut questions of law which he reserved for future consideration : First as to whether anything more than personal residence was necessary, and secondly as to whether there had been a waiver. Tho questions of fact for the jury to determine were (1) Did appellant personally resido on the property from the 9tn April to the 19th December ; (2) has he personally resided there from 19th December to the present time. The jury answered both questions in the affirmative. -Judgment was reserved until the legal points iuvoled are argued. Hokitika, last night. In tho Supreme Court to-day, in the criminal case Hillier v. Jacobs, a charge of 0.-eatin" a> public nuisance by erecting certain buildings cn a public road near Greyruouth, after the evidence of two surveyors, Mr Justice Dennistou directed the jury to find a technical verdict of guilty, and then ordered tho buildings to be removed within reasonable tirno. Tho question of costs was reserved to enable the Judge to consult other Judges. In civil jurisdiction, the caso Earl v. the Government, was commenced before a jury. This is a claim for £1,500 damages for the loss of a right-leg on she Greymouth wharf twelvo months ago by a railway truck. Several witnesses for complainant wero examined, and further hearing was adjourned till to-morrow.
