(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Palmerston North, last night. A man named Robt. Kennedy, a car- . penter from Bulls, who was admitted to the hospital last night suffering from ' hemorrhage of the lungs, died this morning. A heavy westerly gale, with rain, passed over the district last night. The rain was very welcome to pastoralists. New Plymouth, last night. Three and a-half inches of rain fell during the night, the heaviest fall for over 30 years. Cellars and yards in the centre of the town were flooded, and a large number of poultry drowned, but no serious damage is yet reported in town or country. There is a tremendous sea running in the roadstead, delaying the steamer for the South. Woodville, last night. Through the Westinghouse brake not acting properly on the Palmerston to Dannevirke train last night, the train was brought to a standstill with a terrific jolt at Woodvillo station, with the consequence that the 12-year-old daughter of Mr Wm. Barrett, of Hawera, was thrown off a seat and had her nose broken. The condition of Mr McCormick, County Chairman, who was thrown off his horse two nights ago, is causing his friends great anxiety. Wellington last night. The Right Rev. Dr. Stuart, formerly Bishop of Waiapu, and row engaged in missionary work in Persia, arrived by the Monowai to-day. He has eighteen months’ furlough, which he will spend in New Zealand. The prize-money allocated for the Rowing Championship Regatta totals 11165. l’horo will be eleven events. The prizes for the Champion Fours will be 1130 and 1110. The following soldiers returned via Sydney by the Monowai this morning : Lieutenant Joyce (Christchurch), Corporal Furclough (Otago), Troopers Morrish (Marlborough), and Tattam (South Canterbury). Christchurch, last night. Mr George Bonnington, a woll-known chemist, died last night, aged 65. Timavu, last night. Mr T. A. H. Wing, M.A., Cambridge, at present assistant in Nelson Colloge, was to-day appointed first assistant in tiro Timaru Boys’ High School. There wero 13 other applicants.
