ST. MARY’S SCHOOL CONCERT.

A most successful concert was given in tho Academy of Music last evening b,y the pupils of St. Mary’s Convent School. There was a largo attendance of parents and friends of the scholars, and a very pleasant time was spent, A first-class programme was submitted, and each item was received with enthusiastic applause, but, owing to tho length of tho programme, encores were not encouraged. The choruses by tho pupils were exceptionally well rendered, and were striking testimony of tho care and attention that had been bestowed by the Sisters of Mercy in the training of tho young people. Tho opening number was “ Tbo Gipsies’ Laughing Chorus,” which was splendidly treated, and this was followed by a number of other excellent items, including “ Ring Out, Wild Bells,” “Tho Elfin Call,” and “ Merry, Merry Christmas,” each piece being received with much applause. The pianoforte duet, “ National Airs,” by Misses Kathleen Martin and Emily McConville, was most carefully performed, whilst the violin selection, “ The Last Rose of Summer,” by Master Harry Martin and Miss Lullie Power, was likewiseamost enjoyabloitem. Miss Rose Liddlo’spianofortesolo," Dusset’s Sonata,” was executed with much taste and skill, as also was that given by Miss Muriel Wright, who contributed “ Chopin’s Waltz.” Another excellent item was the violin solo, “ Hope Told a Flattering Tale,” played by Miss Lillie Power, the young lady being warmly applauded for her effort. A pianoforto quartette, “ Mattel’s Waltz,” was ably performed by Misses Rosie Liddle, May Fitzgerald, Katie Currie, and Nellie McLaughlin, and Miss Dura Booth greatly pleased the audience with her play;:: tho violin sol °- “ Burgmuller’s Nocturne.” The item on the programme, however, that was received with the most enthusiasm, was the song, “ Kissing Papa Through the Telephone,” given by Misses Norma- Wyllie, Mary Martin, Dorothy Martin, Kathleen Martin, Annie Heunessy, and Kathleen Hood. Tho young ladies mentioned sang in a most pleasing manner, and the audience were so charmed with the item that they persisted in applauding until the song was repeated. A pianoforte duet, “ Gaprieante,” by Misses Muriel Wright and Rosie Liddle, was tastefully rendered, and brought the first half of tho programme to a close. The second part of thu concert was devoted to the floral cantot i, “ Tiie j Quarn! of the F.owcrs,” w ■ was < . ccetli.igl.v wefi >ge«l, the ch.» •••-. >s bei-i,. : takei. ,n ilv : lowing: Chi - ■ >s, M Thee. - ■ i.■ •. 1. ■1 ; fjunilower, >/ -- Ltd::i* !
