SERIOUS ASSAULT.

Dunedin, last night. William McEwan was committed for trial to-day for an assault causing bodily harm. It is alleged that he assaulted a man after they had a drink or two together, with the result that his leg was broken.
A PICKPOCKET.
The pickpocket arrested on Saturday, who gave his name as Frederick Mathews, appeared at the Police Court to-day. The Court declined counsel's request to reduce the charges to common theft, and a little later counsel withdrew. After hearing the evidence the accused pleaded guilty to each of the three charges, and was remanded to the Supreme Court for sentence. QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY.
In honor of Her Majesty the Queen's birthday Lord and Lady Ranfurl.y gave a garden party at Littlebourne. About 6uo guests attended.
