Earthquakes at Cheviot.

Wellington, last night. Tho Telegraph Department has been advised of two shocks of earthquake at Cheviot on Saturday evening, and three others before daylight yesterday morning, the last being at 4.50, since which all was quiet up to the time of the advice, at 8 a.m. to-day. Christchurch, last night.

Welcome rain fell at Cheviot last night, and a more cheerful tone is evident throughout the settlement. Some slight tremors were felt last night, and severe shocks on Saturday night. On Sunday morning the coach leaving Cheviot and the one this morning again were crowded with women and children.
