The position of Dean of Christchurch was offered to Canon Harper, who, however, has declined it. COMMERCIAL EDUCATION.
Accountancy and book keeping have been adopted by the Educational Department as a subject in Civil Service cx=ruinations. The President of tb» Incorporated Institute of Accountants has been appointed by tho Minister of Education as the examiner for the colony, and is now making arrangements for the examination. BICYCLE RACING. At a meeting of tho Council of the League of Wheelmen to-night it was resolved to grant permission to League riders to compete at unregistered meetings in the North Island until further notice. This is intended as a temporary measure, tho Council having appointed a representative to visit the principal districts in the North Island early next mouth to advance its interests. GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL. Mr George J. Lancaster, M.A., has been appointed assistant teacher of mathematics, physical science, etc., of the Girls’ High School.
