The Minister of Mines aunouncos that a bonus of i£2ooo will be paid to any person who, before the Ist of January, 1904, shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold from black sands. The invention must be a new one, portable, and capable of utilising local water. It must have a capacity of thirty cubic yards an hour, and must be oapable of treating profitably material which contains for each cubic yard gold valued at not more than lid ; no less than 80 per cent, of the gold contained in the material to be saved by the invention. No bonus will be paid until the machine has been working for at least six months, and has treated not less than 10,000 cubic yards of material.
