BIG GUN EXPLOSION.
MISFIRE OF A CHARGE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Nov. 11. The accident on the British warship Royal Sovereign (by which the captain and six artillerymen were killed, and which was at first stated to have been caused by tho artillery forgetting to closo the breech) was really due to the misfire of a charge, which preceded the accident. The smouldering fragment of the charge was left behind, and ignited tho fresh cartridge prematurely, before the breechblock had been closed. Captain Spurway was amongst tho killed. Nineteen wero injured, including Commander Sir Robert Keith Arbuthnot, Bart. [The Royal Sovereign is one of the most modern types of battleships. She is of 14,500 tonnage, 9000 h.p., with 14 gunß, and steams 17.5 knots.]
