WANGANUI NEWS.

SIR HECTOR MACDONALD,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wanganui, last night. Sir Hector Macdonald was taken for a short trip up the river this morning, and he left for New Plymouth by the afternoon mail train. A large and enthusiastic crowd assembled at the station to farewell him.

FIRES,

There were two alarms of fire to-day. One shortly after noon was an outbreak in the stables at Mr Forlong’s private residence. A second at ten to ten tonight was in a shed at the rear of Dir Biennerhasset’s residence, River Bank. Neither was serious. A LITTLE GIFT.

The Borough Council to-night voted £3O to the Garrison Band.
