Nuhaka North Notes.
(Times Correspondent.)
During tho past fortnight the weather has been all that can be desired, and the country is looking beautifully, fresh and green, abundance of feed everywhere. Shearing operations have already commenced, Messrs Proudlock, J. and A. Richardson being the first to make a start, and tho first bales of the season were despatched from tho Tarawa shed on Wednesday last for Gisborne. The work of erecting a goods shed at Waikokopu has not yet been commenced, and it is doubtful if settlers will be able to send their wool away by that route this season. A largo herd of store cattle, principally three-years-old, numbering 352, passed through the district on Tuesday last ; they bad been driven from the East Coast, and wore bound for Williams’ estate, Hawke’s Bay. Mr 0. Evans left Tarawa on Thursday last in charge of 1000 fat sheep for Messrs Nelson Bros.’ Freezing Works, Gisborne; the sheep were fattenod on the Messrs Coop’s property.
Several vehicles have been driven through to Wairoa recently, and it is expected that Messrs McKinley’s mail coach will be upon the road next week.
