A fair number of spectators were present at Riccarton to witness the final work this morning. Fultnon, who galloped a mile and a half yesterday afternoon in 2.46 2-5, was given slow work. Glenaladale on the course this morning did steady work with Windwhistle .and Palaver, assisted part oi the way by The Shannon, a mile and a quarter being traversed in 2.15. The Apremont marc has doue more hard work than any other o f the Cup candidates. Djin-Djiu did nine furlongs in 2.S 3-5, Wil-o’-the-Wisp a good half-mile, Ideal only easy work. Tortulla beat Boreas and fashion over a mile, and Melvvood did six furlongs nicely in 1.18 2-5. The Yaldhurst horses on the course were Mensehikoff, Cruciform, San Remo, and Royal Artillery, and they did useful three - quarter paco work. Others were given easy exercise. Ostiak moved well over a half-mile in 49 2-5, Calibre and Military taking the same time for a similar journey. A large number of horses were walking and cantering. My selections for tko Cup are:—Fulmeu 1, Ideal 2, Palaver 3. Stewards’: Glenoglc 1, Ostiak 2, Blazer 3, with Royal Artillery. Welcome Stakes: Porirua or Mr Stead’s selection. Shorts : Whirlwind or Romanoff. Hurdles : Huku. Maiden : San Remo. Riccarton Welter: Stepina 1, Peerage 2, Petriona 3. Ladies’ Purse : Magnificent or Cadet. Auckland, last night. l'ho weather yesterday interfered with training, though during the day Nonctte, San Patricia, Yal Rosa, Beddington, Bluejacket, St. Ursula, and St. Olga performed fairly strong tasks. This morning, the same lot, Rosella, Doctor, Sparkling Water, Solo, Cavalry, Winsome, and Zealous did nice work. Tauliei, Cronje, and Materoa have arrived at headquarters.
