GUILD DROWNED
l!y Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plymouth, hist night. A child agetl tuo years, of settlers named Favors, was drowned at Tarata today. There ate no particulars to hand. An inquest will he held to-morrow.
COMPULSORY BAY
The typographical dispute came befoie the Conciliation Board to-day. All employers in the province were cited. Nine appeared. On the question of the employment of unionists as against nonunionists it was agreed that there should be no discrimination as against unionists. On the question of employing females several country employers said they were willing to accept an award similar to that given at Auckland, but the tm iou wants females paid at tho same rates as jou ■uuymen and apprentices. The unioi wants tho minimum wage to be X'2 los per week, and the employers want it to be only X'2 10s, and this point also was left for the Board to consider. Other demands were mostly agreed tc, either as they stand or with slight amendments.
OLD BOYS.
Ait interesting function to-night was n reunion of the old boys of tho central school. It was very successful. A suggestion to form an association similar to that of other large schools was made. A CEREMONY.’ Archdeacon Walsh arrived from Auckland to-day for the unveiling of the hatch incuts in St. Marv’s next week.
