Accident to a Scow.
Pacroa, Monday. The scow Lagoon, Captain K. Laing, bound from I'aeroa to Auckland with a load of sand for cement purposes, was sunk last night in the Oliincmuri river, at the bend near the Puke ferry. Itj appears that the scow brought up about 10 tons of coal, consigned by Mr Winstone, of Auckland, to the Wailii Gold Mining Company. After discharging, she was loaded up with sand for Auckland. The vessel was cleared last night soon after tho Waimarie left, the Junction, and was floating down tho river with the current when she struck a snag with considerable force, and had a largo hole knocked in her side. She soon tilled with water, but Captain Laing, noticing that she would settle in tho navigable channel, had a line put on to her bow, and, before she finally went under, lie had her drawn out of the way of the other vessels trading to I’aeroa. An attempt is to be made to discharge the sand at low water.
