The Age says that the connecting links ot tne Pacific cable are likely to cause trouble. It is paten: that there is a desire on the part of New Zealand to monopolise or gain the gveute- part of the Australian trattle for luw c .meeting line. This will be a decided ..isadvantage to Queensland, who .I'ui'menily lyvkoiual oil till' whole of the Australian business sent bv the Pacific route coming over her iand lines. Lor some time past, the New Zealand Government have been working to obtain a State-owned cable between Sydnev and Auckland, and this is now within measurab! i istanee. With this cable completed, Queensland s chance of a monopoly of the Australian business ends. New Zealand Ids a iso offered to provideall the necossarv staff lor the Pacific cable as far as that colony is concerned at her own expense, thereby securing the full control of the business as tar as Norfolk Island. The possibilities of the situation arc being eagerly discussed, in Queensland.
