OUTBREAK OF SCARLETINA.
THE VALUE OF ISOLATION WARDS.
Special to Times. | Wellington, last night
Ail experiment was made yesterday in connection with the outbreak of scarletina on board the steamer Gothic for the purpose of testing the system arranged by the Public Health Department for coping with the plague should it ever come to the colony. Everything appears to have worked satisfactorily up to a certain point, the patients being quietly removed to the building erected on the outskirts of the city as the plague hospital, where they will be isolated. The shipping authorities gave assistance, and have expressed satisfaction with the expeditious manner in which the ship and the other passengers were released. The Health Department will, however, make recommendations to the City Council, as the local health authority, for an improvement of the arrangements at the fever hospital.
