THE "JOHN TOWNLEY."

(Special to Times.) Christchurch, last night. Tiie dredger -John Townley” was successfully launched at Lyttelton at ten minutes to four on Saturday. A grout number of people gathered at the wharves and on board vessels in harbor, including several photographers. Tho ways were projected over the wharf about 15 feet at rather a steep angle. A line from the tug Lyttelton was attached to a bridle at the stern of the dredger, and when this was taut the word was given to sever the holding rope, and the dredger, with those on board, moved forward with considerable velocity, the vessel shipping a ton or two of water us it dashed into tho sea. She rode splendidly, drawing about two and a half feet. Cheers were given, and pleasure was expressed at the neat manner the task had hci-u accomplished under tho direction of Mr Mi. or, tho local shipbuilder.
