THE AMERICA CUP.
A VICTORY FOR THE AMERICAN REPRESENTATIVE. THE SHAMROCK BEATEN BY 35 SECONDS. Received 4.-11 p.iu., Sept. 20. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Now York, Sept. 28. The race for the America Cup (which was not completed within the time limit on the first attempt) was resailed to-day, the greatest interest being taken in the event.
The result was a victory for the American yacht, the Columbia, which in the unfinished race had been threequarters of a mile ahead when the time allowed had expired. In the race to-day the Columbia won with thirty-five seconds to spare. The Columbia often fell astern of the Shamrock during the race. The betting was ti to 1 on the Cup defender, tho Columbia. Prior to the re-sailing of the race, Mr Pierpout Morgan, the owner of the Columbia, expressed his confidence that his yacht being able to beat Shamrock 11. in a light breeze, was certain to win in a fresh one.
Sir Thomas Liptou, owner of the Shamrock, said that he was still hopeful that the British boat would outpace her rival. In commenting on the first race, the American newspapers declared that Captain Barr, who sailed the Columbia, eclipsed Captain Sycamore, the captain of Shamrock, in his display of seamanship.

For Saturday’s race, a 10-knot breeze was blowing. The weather was bright. The Shamrock secured tho windward position, and led from the outset, but soon the roughness of the water tom porarily favored the Columbia. Tho Shamrock rounded the mark first, leading for tho next four miles. On the homeward ruu, the wind fell to seven knots.
The competitors were almost even in tho last half-mile, the Columbia winning by 200 yards. Tho official elapsed time <e : Columbia, 16,224 seconds Shamrock, 1(5,304 seconds.
