A deputation of merchants urged upon Mr Barton the disabilities of Victoria through not accepting tho agreement with the Eastern ExtensionOo. He was asked to enter into an agreement on behalf of the Commonwealth, so that all States would participate in the reduction of rates. Mr Barton promised that as soon as the tariff was disposed of, he would give the cable question earnest consideration.
