A HEALTH OFFICER'S EXCUSE.
WHY HE KEPT PEOPLE WAITING FOR HOURS.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
Wellington, last night. Tho hearing of tho evidence in connection with complaints concerning the delay of the Health Officer in granting partique to the Monowai from Sydney concluded to-day, before Mr Haselden, S.M., Commissioner. In his evidence, the Health Officer for the port defended his action in leaving tho vessel before granting a clearance by tho fact that one of tho passengers had refused to come on deck after being sent for. He thought it necessary to take such a step in order to convince the ship’s officers that it was their duty to produce every person on board.
