AUCKLAND SPECIAL.

[Special to Tim ns. | Auckland, last night. On account of the funeral of President McKinley all Government oilieos, including the Tost and Telegraph Offices, were closed from if to -I o'clock this afternoon as a mark of respect to the dead statesman. The American Consul and Mrs Dillingham will attend a memorial service at St. Taiil's Church at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow. At that service, Miss Josephine Stanton, an American of the Stanton Opera Company, now playing at Auckland, will sing “ Nearer My God to Thee," the late President's favorite hymn. Mr I. E. Coney, Chief Postmaster of the Thames, retires from the Government employ on a pension, after thirty-two years' service. Mr Coney is well known in Auckland, and one of the most popular I members of the service.

The funeral of the late Colonel Eraser, who made himself known to old Gisborne identities in the warlike days, took place at the Thames this afternoon, there being a iargo and representative gathering of mourners, Residents of Auckland, Waikato, T’e Aroha, Oliiiieinuri, and Coromandel districts were present to pay a last tribute of respect.
