LOAN FOR PUBLIC WORKS,

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night

The poll of ratepayers on tho proposals of the City Council to borrow 1:100,000 for City Council improvements was taken today. Seven proposals were submitted, namely—Fire brigade, .£12,000 ; paving of streets, .£B,OOO ; extension of water supply, .£25,000 ; abattoirs, .£SOOO ; refuse destructor, .£IO,OOO ; town hall, £26,000 ; purchase of allotments, £14,000. Tho first five were carried by a large majority. The town hall proposal and purchase of allotments were defeated.
