SHOOTING SENSATION.
WOUNDING OF ME HEWITT,

Considerable excitement was caused in town last evening when it became known that Mr T. Hewitt was shot by a man of the name of Maxwell. Tho wound, which is a very nasty one, is situated in the thigh, tho bullet entering tho side of the thigh, and coming out of tho hack. Maxwell is now in tho hands of tho police. No motive is assigned for the deed. Maxwell, who was violently excited at tho time, was creating a scene in the Clyde Hotel, when he was politely asked to leave. After several remonstrances from Mr Hewitt, Maxwell drew a revolver, and fired, wounding Mr Hewitt as stated. Mr Hewitt is progressing favourably. Maxwell appeared at tho local Justice's Court this morning, and was remanded until Tuesday, bail of £4OO being allowed. It is stilted that Maxwell wont to the hotel to see his wife, who is lying thcro ill.
