(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night,

The Wellington Woollen Company pays a dividend for the balance of the year to July 81st at the rate of 8 per cent per annum. THE PATEA ELECTION. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of William Parker, laborer, of Patea, against the return of Mr Haselden for the Patea seat to the House of Representatives. The grounds of the petition are that after the poll was talien the lieturning Officer wrongfully opened the parcels of ballot papers and extracted a voting paper of Frederick Charles Saphir, of Taylorville, commercial traveller, and disallowed the vote, which had been cast in favor of Mrliislop ; that after the poll the Returning Officer took out the paper of Asthur Nesbitt, of Huntcrville, who also voted for Mr Hcslop, and disallowed it ; that the. DeputyReturning Officer at Makirikiri closed the booth shortly alter opening it, and it remained closed throughout the day, and the Returning Officer failed to make any return ; that the deputy at Mangaonoho booth closed it during the dinner hour, and it remained so lor at least an hour; that an elector named John Williamson on the roll as John Williams was not allowed to vote at Huntcrvillc, although he rightly claimed to be the person named John Williams; that an elector on the roll as John Ferguson was not allowed to vote at Pukerhnu; that both these votes would have' boon cast for Mr Hislop. The petitioner therefore asks that the election be declared void. SUPREME COURT. At the Supreme Court George Kelley and Edward Creasey were found guilty of the theft of a ring from a woman, but not guilty of intimadation. They were remanded for sentence.
