A Dredging Case.

Dunedin, last night.
A case in which great interest was taken by all connected with dredging was concluded at the Supreme Court to-day, after extending over three days. Tho case was that of Gotten Bros., consulting engineers, v. the Globe Gold Dredging Company, to recover £ll3 8s (Id commission, to which a counter claim was put in. Cutton Bros, had been engaged to prepare plans for the retrieval and re-crccting of a current wheel dredge, which was aft.: - wards converted into a steam dredgo from ivlolyneux to Wanaka. The counter claim was for alleged negligence on tho part of the plaintiffs, whereby the defendants suffered to tho extent of £450, which sum was claimed as a set-off. The alleged negligence included delaying of plant, by which time was lost, want of proper supervision, and not including various things in specifications. It was stated, but not proved, during the case that engineers declined to give evidence for the defendants. The jury gave a verdict for tho Globe Company in the claim and counter claim, giving £5 damages in tho latter. Judgment was entered upon, with costs, but execution was stayed for ton days, in order to move for a new trial, on tho ground that the verdict tvas against the weight of evidence.
