A “ GHOST " WITH A SHEATH
KNIFE,
[By Telegraph—Pres3 Association.] Auckland, last night.
A boy named James Rowe, aged 15, was captured in Pitt street last night masquerading as a ghost. A sheath-knife was found on him, which he said he intended to use for protection. He was charged at the Police Court to-day with threatening behavior, and was remanded till Saturday. Many people have been frightened by someone masquerading as a ghost recently. The boy now charged is not supposed to be the original one.
Monday's Auckland Star states : It was ruujoured to-day that the apparition which has lately been “ reviting the glimpses of the moon ” in the Mount Roskill and Newton districts, had been caught. The police, however, assure us that such is not the ease. The police are disposed to regard the matter lightly, and one constable has ingeniously suggested that the number of ladies dressed in white, going home late from the opera during the last few weeks, may have something to do with the scare. Judging, however, from the experience of one gentleman, the ghost is a stern reality. This gentleman was returning home through the Xewfon district one evening recently, when he was confronted by an apparition, which, with a keen eye for dramatic effect, “ cleared ” a six-foot fence and disappeared. The gentleman in question confesses that though he is ordinarily a courageous man, on this occasion he turned and bolted.
